about

I named this album "Steve" after my roommates' housecat. I'm allergic to cats, but Steve is hypoallergenic and one of the few cats I can actually interact with. Lately I've been struggling with writing rhymes, due to time constraints and writer's block.

The main time I end up writing is in the late night/early morning hours, 2-5 am. Steve is the only living thing that mobbed out with me during writing sessions, so I named the album after her. Steve is a female cat, as "Steve" is the only name she answers to so it stuck. The album art actually looks exactly like Steve, minus the technicolor.

I wrote this album about life. I have a hectic life myself, filled with 9-5 shifts, live performances, and balancing my new life in Louisville, Kentucky and the strong connections I have with my hometown in Long Island, New York. I moved here to further pursue my musical endeavors, and it's working out better than I (and most critics) expected.

The theme of this album is uncertainty. As I've grown, I've learned that most people are far more sure of themselves and their beliefs than they should be. I used to be one of those people, life has taught me that no ideal is a certainty or "the absolute right way" to do things. There are just things you try, and things you don't, for whatever reasons you have.

Success is a relative term. So is justice. So is popularity. And so on. I wrote "Steve" because in the middle of the night when I get a chance to write, all I think about is how often people don't think. We believe we think, but we really just follow a blueprint handed to us by society.

Steve is meant to challenge the status quo we all accept, in a way that isn't preachy or even sure of it's own validity. Uncertainty is the purest form of honesty, and I sincerely hope you'll take something with you after 20 minutes of that honesty. If not, well...I wasn't sure you would anyway to be real. And that's why we play the game, to find out. Enjoy the music, much more to come.
